An AYA is a Paragraph. Like this one.
This is our First Edition. That means something.
The Daily AYA is a newsletter full of ideas and insights that are just brief, like an aya.
Why is Elon Musk dying…
“If I die under mysterious circumstances, it’s been nice knowin ya”
-Elon in a mysterious tweet.
What happened over the past few weeks?
Elections…
What do people do when issues they care about are at stake… VOTE. We are a democratic society, and so several elections happened over the world….
John Lee was elected as Hong Kong’s new chief executive.
France stuck with its président.
Local elections in England, Wales and Scotland, and a general election in Northern Ireland, took place on 5 May.
While at it, Northern Ireland witnessed ‘seismic’ legislative election result

Early voting began in Australia.
Lebanese in 48 counties voted in Parliamentary Elections
Why is this important?
Because the Kenyan election is scheduled for 9th August.
But I already know this.
Yes, you do. But, elections in Africa are a serious matter. Campaigns could last years. There’s the noise, the lies, the abuse, the accusations, the counter-accusations, the betrayal, the deceit. Hullabaloo. And Promises, Promises, Promises. No teargas this time.
Then eventually, the actual elections. Then the accusations of stolen elections. Tension. Tension. Tension. - It’s easy to have butterflies in Kenya.
And then unfulfilled promises.
Remember the Stadiums. Remember the Laptops. Remember it all. That’s all they are. Promises.
So what…
As Kenya heads to the polls, it’s important to remember that elections happen all over the democratic world. Elections are supposed to be peaceful.
But elections in Africa are based on propaganda. The biggest propagandist wins or is guillotined by opponent voters. It's not about issues - maybe because there are so many issues.
Welcome to the tribe… The leading tribe always speaks.
Still on Elections
A record 47 independents vie for the presidency in Kenya. That plus the parties’ list is going to be a nightmare for the IEBC. A near comparison, The Philippines had 10 names on the 2022 ballot for president, 9 for VP.
The ballot will definitely be a booklet.
But why are so many election ballots confusing?
Inside Aya
Africa should make its elections about issues that face citizens. Voters need to be educated to understand the implications of elections. - And perhaps how to vote.
Tiny Thought
"It's not what you can see. It's who can see you." That’s the mantra repeated by Adam Neumann, one of the main characters in a limited drama series on Apple TV+.
That’s the first rule of commercial real estate (and life) according to WeCrashed. Life is about others’ perceptions. It’s more about how other people view you, more than what you see. How do other people view you?
The intentions might be sincere - even to make the world a better place. But how this is executed does not solely depend on your goals, but on how people view you.
It’s our duty to manage that perception.
Also, about trust: "Trust is earned in drops and lost in buckets."

AYA Money Thought
Someone who maxes out their mortgage makes a lot of money when the tide is rising but gets exposed when it goes out. We are conditioned to compare ourselves to whoever is doing best. That's the bar. An impossible standard that encourages us to take more and more risks.
