The story
Kenya will ban the advertisement and promotion of baby feeding bottles from May 28.
But why
The World Health Organisation has a requirement to end the promotion of breast milk substitutes and related products. According to the Principal Nutrition and Dietetics officer at NMS, feeding bottles or pacifiers do more harm than good.
What was misreported?
Kenya has not banned the sale of feeding bottles or pacifiers. It only banned advertising and promotion of the products.
What does this mean?
The BMS (Breast Milk Supplements) general regulations and control have been operationalised through parliamentary legislation and will come into effect from 28th May 2022. In these regulations, bottles, teats, pacifiers and cups with sprouts will not be allowed as containers for use when it comes to feeding children. The manufacturers of the baby foods including infant formula, complementary feeds and baby feeding equipment will be expected to comply with the standards and general regulations outlined in the law.
In Short…
‘Teat-feeding’ has several shortcomings. The ‘teat’ of the bottle is made of silicon which does not have the same texture as the breast nipple causes nipple confusion. Nipple confusion leads to the refusal of babies to breastfeed.
Also
Suckling from the teat causes pressure on the inner ear and children may suffer recurrent ear inflammation.
And the bottles are dirty.

Tiny Thought
Time isn't the same for everyone. Trust your success clock. We don’t have the same amount of time in our days. Time is the indefinite progress of existence and events in the past, present, and future.
In short, we don’t live life trying to be in synch with every second/minute on the clock. We (everyday people) cannot measure time, in the truest sense of the word measure. Our existence isn’t based on the tick of the clock, since we can only feel time.
Quote
"All aspirants in Kenya are tainted by corruption allegations and that is why none is pointing fingers. Corruption is no longer an issue. It seems to be our way of life and it has become hard to show a strong leader who is not tainted by corruption," analyst Bobby Mkangi told the BBC.
